If your family is moving to a new home and you have decided to skip the U-Haul trucks this time and instead will be using a moving company like Bell Moving & Storage, then there are a few things you need to do prior to moving day to ensure the move goes off without a hitch. In addition to stocking up on high-quality corrugated cardboard boxes and many rolls of clear moving and storage tape, follow each of these important tips:

Tip: Pack All of Your Boxes Before the Moving Day Arrives

If you are using a moving company to move your household but are not using their optional packing service, then packing up all of your belongings ahead of the moving day is all on you. And since professional moving crews can empty out an entire home in just a few hours, you must do all of the packing prior to their arrival. To make the process smooth on moving day, make sure you have packed all of your stuff well before the movers arrive.

Tip: Color Code Each of Your Packed Moving Boxes for Their Designated Rooms

The easiest way to ensure all of your belongings end up in the room where they belong in your new home is to very clearly color code each box. The easiest way to do this is to give each room a color and then liberally mark each box with that color. Place a color-coded sheet of paper on the new room's door so there is no question what boxes go in each room.

For example, as you pack each kitchen box, mark each side of the box with a thick green marking pen. On moving day, hang a piece of paper marked with the same green pen near the entrance doors to the kitchen. This simple step helps you movers know immediately where to put each box and eliminates all confusion.

Tip: Arrange for Childcare and Pet Sitting for the Day of Your Move

This last tip is very important. While you might think you can watch your children and pets on your moving day, the entire process will be a lot safer and easier if you have someone else lined up to take over for you. Keeping your children and pets away from both homes will ensure the movers have room to work and will help keep you focused on the task at hand.
